Physical AI startup Origin has emerged from stealth with $20 million in total funding, co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, to expand the deployment of autonomous robots for interior construction.
Other backers include Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures, Z21, ISAI and Imad Ventures, alongside angel investors associated with Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla.
The San Francisco-headquartered startup plans to use the funding to expand its robot fleet, deploy its flagship robot OG-1 and conduct customer pilots across international markets.
Founded in early 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga and Tushar Makkar, Origin develops robots to automate labour-intensive construction activities. The startup said it deployed its first robots at construction sites in New York within 10 months of its founding.
What does Origin’s OG-1 robot do?
Origin’s flagship robot, OG-1, is designed to automate wall-finishing tasks, including applying compound, sanding and priming walls.
According to the startup, the robot can operate at heights of up to 14 feet and work alongside construction crews. It is being deployed across commercial spaces, residential apartment complexes, data centres, hotels and warehouses.
OG-1 is powered by Origin’s Construction Action Model, an AI foundation model trained using simulations and data from live construction sites. The system combines task planning, autonomous navigation and tool control to help robots adapt to changing site conditions.
Origin plans to expand the robot’s capabilities to include drywall installation, taping, drilling and conduit installation.
Expansion plans and construction robotics market
Origin is preparing customer pilots with two of the largest US drywall-finishing contractors, with additional pilots planned in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia. It aims to deploy 150 robots by the end of 2027.
“Every customer we work with has more demand and project backlogs than their teams can deliver. They’re leaving revenue on the table because they don’t have enough skilled people, and demand is only growing,” said Ghaturle, Origin’s cofounder and CEO.
Ghaturle previously founded Perpule, which Amazon acquired in 2021. Makkar previously worked at Eightfold AI, while Daga has experience at Morphle Labs.
According to a survey published by the Associated General Contractors of America in September 2026, worker shortages caused project delays for 42% of responding US construction firms.
Meanwhile, Zacua Ventures’ Construction Robotics Report 2026 said the sector attracted $1.36 billion in venture funding during the first three quarters of 2025, compared with $612 million throughout 2024.
