Pune-based fintech and brokerage startup Definedge raises Rs 22 crore in funding

Fintech and brokerage firm Definedge has raised Rs 22 crore in a pre-Series A funding round as it looks to expand its trading and investment products and strengthen its technology infrastructure.

The round included existing backers Nitin Agarwal and D. Prasad, as well as new investors Anant Jain and Sachin Kasera. It follows Definedge’s first institutional and angel investment round, which closed in November 2025.

That earlier round included investors Hemant Luthra, Ajay Srivastava, D. Prasad, Nitin Agarwal and Madhusudan N. Sarda.

Definedge said it will use the fresh capital for margin funding, marketing and distribution, developing products using AI and automation, and expanding its technology, service and operational infrastructure.

The startup also plans to scale Zone, Opstra, Algostra and Momentify, some of the main products in its trading and investing ecosystem.

Algostra is an existing no-code algorithmic trading platform that allows users to build, test and automate rule-based trading strategies. Momentify, meanwhile, is aimed at investors using systematic investment strategies and allows users to build and backtest strategies before deploying them for portfolio management.

Definedge was founded by Prashant Shah and Rajesh Badiye and initially focused on investor education and market-analysis products before moving into full-service broking.

It now operates more than 14 platforms covering areas including options analytics, technical analysis, algorithmic trading, systematic investing and investor education. Its products include Opstra, Zone, Algostra, Momentify and the Gurukul learning ecosystem.

“We didn’t begin with a brokerage license; we began by building trust, knowledge and community,” Shah, Definedge’s co-founder and CEO, said.

Definedge said Momentify has crossed Rs 1,000 crore in assets under management in about 15 months.

The startup is targeting Rs 5,000 crore in AUM through the platform over the next 24 months. It also plans to expand Gurukul, which provides learning programmes for traders and investors.

It had opened about 60,000 demat accounts over the past 15 months without spending on marketing.

According to the startup, its overall user base has increased by 125% in the past 14 months and grown tenfold over the past 36 months.

Definedge currently earns revenue from brokerage, subscriptions to premium products and its education business. Brokerage has become its largest revenue stream, while the education business includes webinars, seminars and online courses.

The startup is also seeking to expand beyond India. It is applying for full GIFT City membership, with an initial plan to make international market data available to Indian investors before exploring the possibility of offering its products to users outside India. The US is expected to be its first overseas market.

Definedge is also increasing its use of AI and automation across its product suite. Shah said the longer-term aim was to connect research, analysis, investing, trading, education and automation more closely, with the technology helping users research ideas, test strategies and follow investment rules.

The funding comes as investment in India’s fintech sector has increased.
