Cardiac diagnostics startup Sunfox raises $7 million from stock market investor Ashish Kacholia, others

Dehradun-based medtech startup Sunfox Technologies, which develops portable cardiac diagnostic devices, has raised $7 million (approximately Rs 67 crore) in a Series A funding round led by investors Ashish Kacholia, Lashit Sanghvi, Alchemy Capital and 3one4 Capital.

The startup plans to use the fresh capital to expand across India, strengthen its international regulatory, distribution and commercial capabilities, scale up its team and increase investment in research and development (R&D).

According to Sunfox, this is its largest funding round since it began as a research and development venture in Uttarakhand in 2016.

How Sunfox Technologies started

Sunfox Technologies was founded by Rajat Jain, Arpit Jain, Sabit Rawat, Nitin Chandola and Saurabh Badola after the loss of a college friend prompted them to explore ways to improve access to timely cardiac assessment and reduce delays in care following a heart attack.

What began as a college-led initiative eventually developed into a medtech company focused on improving access to cardiac diagnostic technology, particularly in areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.

The startup’s flagship product, Spandan, is a portable electrocardiogram (ECG) platform designed for personal, clinical and institutional use, including homes, clinics, hospitals and public healthcare programmes.

The platform allows users and frontline healthcare workers to record ECGs using portable devices and share the results with doctors remotely for interpretation. This can help identify cardiac patterns that may require urgent medical attention and support decisions on further assessment and treatment.

In public healthcare settings, Spandan can operate through a hub-and-spoke model. Nurses and healthcare workers at primary and community health centres can record ECGs and send them to doctors or cardiologists at district-level hubs for review.

The approach is intended to make specialist cardiac assessment more accessible to smaller healthcare centres and help identify patients who require further treatment or referral.

Sunfox also offers Spandan One, a digital platform that supports remote ECG review, case coordination and the management of tele-ECG networks.

Sunfox’s reach and international expansion plans

According to Sunfox, approximately 60,000 Spandan devices have been deployed across India, reaching more than 20,000 villages across states and union territories.

Its Spandan One platform is used to screen approximately five million patients annually across different healthcare settings.

Beyond India, Sunfox said it has received regulatory approvals in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. It is also pursuing regulatory clearances in the United States and the European Union.

The latest investment will support its efforts to strengthen the Spandan product portfolio, develop clinical evidence, expand engineering capabilities and invest in new cardiac technologies.

The startup is also working to establish the infrastructure needed to introduce and expand its products in international markets, including the US, Europe and Africa.

“This round gives us the resources to take what we have built in Dehradun to a much larger stage. We will invest deeply in R&D while expanding across India and building the capabilities required to take Sunfox and Spandan to global markets,” said Rajat Jain, founder and CEO of Sunfox Technologies.

Investor Ashish Kacholia also commented on the company’s focus on improving access to healthcare, particularly in underserved areas.

“I am pleased to invest in Sunfox Technologies, a company focused on saving lives by making quality healthcare more accessible, particularly at the grassroots level,” Kacholia said.
