EV charging and energy management startup Ionage raises $1.3 million in pre-Series A funding

Electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management platform Ionage has raised $1.3 million in a pre-Series A funding round from strategic investors and a consortium of senior executives from global energy and infrastructure companies.

The startup plans to use the fresh capital to expand its coverage to 100% of active EV charging networks in India, improve charger discoverability and payment services, and help small and medium-sized charge point operators (CPOs) establish and manage charging stations more efficiently.

Ionage said it has onboarded more than 25,000 four-wheeler charging points and supports at least 63 fleets and 75 charging partners across the country.

Its network spans 33 states and Union Territories, covering nearly 3,000 cities. The startup also claims its platform operates on more than 70% of India’s charging hardware, connecting with major EV charger manufacturers at the point of installation.

Addressing gaps in India’s EV charging infrastructure

The funding comes as India continues to expand its EV charging infrastructure, although concerns remain over the reliability of public chargers and the lack of integration between different charging networks.

According to Ionage, nearly two in five public chargers in India are non-functional at any given time. It also cited a ratio of one charger for every 235 EVs in 2025.

Ionage aims to address these challenges through a common software and interoperability platform that connects charging operators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), real estate owners and EV drivers.

The platform is designed to allow drivers to discover, access and pay for charging services across different networks without relying on separate applications for each operator.

“We’re building the layer that fixes that: the operating system every charger can run on, whoever owns it, so that discoverability and reliability stop being the exception and start being the default,” said Vimal Kumar V, co-founder and CEO of Ionage.

How Ionage’s charging platform works

Ionage offers several software products designed to manage charging infrastructure and connect operators with electric vehicle users.

Its Nexus platform allows CPOs to manage charging networks, monitor sessions, track users and control access, while the IONAGE App enables drivers to find charging points, plan routes, charge vehicles and make payments across networks.

The startup also operates Flo, a marketplace connecting charging operators with fleet operators, and CASA, a home charging and energy management solution currently listed as being in beta on its website.

Ionage offers a Discovery API that integrates real-time charging information into vehicle systems and maps. Its software development kit (SDK) for businesses, which allows charging services to be integrated into other applications, is currently in closed beta.

The startup’s solutions cover charging infrastructure at offices, shopping malls, hospitality establishments and residential housing societies.

Ionage said it has also begun using AI and machine learning capabilities to support intelligent load balancing and energy trading across its charging network.

Expansion plans and growth targets

Over the next 18 months, Ionage plans to support the development of new CPO micro-clusters in Tier II urban centres, with a focus on helping smaller operators establish and manage charging infrastructure.

It is also targeting monthly energy throughput of at least 20 million units within the next 12 months, supported by company-reported month-on-month growth of 25% or more.

India’s growing demand for EV charging infrastructure

India’s public EV charging network has expanded in recent years as the government and private operators invest in infrastructure to support electric vehicle adoption.

According to the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the country had 52,718 public EV charging stations as of July 2026, of which 16,561 were equipped with fast chargers for cars.

The government has also introduced measures to support the expansion of charging infrastructure, including the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) scheme and the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme.

The PM E-DRIVE scheme has an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore for the deployment of public EV charging infrastructure across the country.

The Ministry of Power has also issued guidelines aimed at developing a connected and interoperable charging network, allowing different charging systems and service providers to work together.

As India expands its charging network, Ionage is seeking to improve access to existing infrastructure through its software platform while helping smaller operators participate in the growing EV charging market.
